UNDIP Loses a Professor of Criminal Law Expert

Diponegoro University is grieving the loss of one of the best professors from the Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr. H. H. Muladi, SH.

He died at the age of 77 at the Gatot Subroto Army Hospital on Thursday 31 December 2020 at 06.45 WIB.

He was born in Surakarta, Central Java on May 26, 1943. His Bachelor of Law (Criminal Law) degree was obtained from Diponegoro University in 1968.

As a student, he was active as a member of the Indonesian National Student Movement (GMNI), 1963–1968. As well as being the Commander of Battalion IV, Semarang Student Regiment, 1964–1967.

He pursued a career as a lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Diponegoro University and served as Head of the Compulsory Training for Diponegoro University Students, Semarang (1971–1974) as well as concurrently serving as a Staff of the Legal Consulting Board, Faculty of Law, Diponegoro University, Semarang, (1971–1974).

Until he served as Assistant Dean III, Student Affairs, Faculty of Law, Diponegoro University, Semarang. After completing the Doctoral Program (S3) in the field of Law, Padjadjaran University, Bandung, and graduating with the Cumlaude predicate in 1984. In not even two years, Muladi was trusted to be the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Diponegoro University, Semarang, (1986–1992). At that time, Muladi also played a role in practical politics as Deputy Chair of the Central Java Golkar DPD, 1986–1992. Besides he is also active as Manager of the Indonesian — Dutch Criminal Law Cooperation Program, Consortium of Law, Faculty of Law, Diponegoro University, (1989–1992).

As a Professor, Muladi has been actively teaching at several State and Private Universities in Java and Outside Java (UNDIP, Ul. UBAYA, UNILA, UNSRI, Pancasila University, UNPAD, PTHM, PTIK, and others), since 1990. He is also a Advisors / Lecturers of the Indonesian Police Academy, 1990–1995. As a criminal law expert, Muladi is active in writing, counting ten books in the fields of Criminal Law, Criminal Justice System, and Human Rights. And also has submitted hundreds of Seminar Papers at home and abroad. The highest career in Diponegoro University is being trusted to be the Rector of UNDIP for the period 1994–1998.

He is very active and has held strategic positions in several institutions and organizations, such as Members of the MPR RI from the Regional Delegation Faction in 1992–1994, Secretary of the Adhoc II Committee of the MPR RI Worker Body in 1997–1999, Deputy Chair of the Law Enforcement Council and the National Security System in 1998–1999, Member of Komnas HAM in the period 1993–1998, and several others.

His peak career was trusted to be Minister of Justice of the Republic of Indonesia Development Cabinet VII in March-May 1998, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Indonesia Development Reform Cabinet in the period May 1998-October 1999, Minister of State Secretary of the Republic of Indonesia in May-October 1999, Director of the Institute for Democracy and Human Rights Center in the period 1999–2002 and the 14th Indonesian National Defense Institute (Lemhanas) Governor for the period 2005–2011.

Because of his achievements and dedication, Muladi received many awards, including the Class II Mahaputra Adi Pradana Star from the President of the Republic of Indonesia and the Bintang Bhayangkara Utama award from the Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in 2006.

Diponegoro University Chancellor Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, SH., Hum. would like to express deep sorrow for the passing of one of the best Undip professors, the late Prof. Dr. H. H. Muladi, SH. “He is not only a teacher but also a role model for us”, said Prof. Yos. “His firm voice in voicing justice and law enforcement reflects dignity and care for others,” he said. “As a legal criminal expert, he is very instrumental in efforts to enforce the law and draft legislation to protect human rights,” he added. “Hopefully the late Husnul Khotimah and get the best reward for his charity and dedication to the family, institutions and the country”, he concluded.

The plan of the late Prof. Dr. H. Muladi, SH will be buried at TMP Giri Tunggal Semarang on Thursday, December 31, 2020.
