Alumni are an integral part of the growth and development of a University. Alumni are one of the parameters in the development and improvement of competitiveness as well as the parameters for the University’s position at the national and international levels.

Currently, Undip’s position in QS AUR is still at 281–290 and QS WUR is below 1000, so an effort is needed to increase Undip’s global ranking. Recently, these efforts have yielded results, namely, for the first time, Undip has successfully entered the ranking of THE WUR 2021, where Undip is ranked 1001+ in the world and 4th ranking in Indonesia. One of the strategic programs carried out is improving the quality of graduates according to international graduate standards, according to the main performance indicators based on the criteria of QS WUR, namely Employer Reputation.

The number of Diponegoro University Alumni as of July 2020 is 222,836 people spread across various regions and even abroad, in various professions and positions. A large number of alumni is a potential for the development and branding of the alma mater. This potential needs to be managed properly in order to provide benefits for Diponegoro University, alumni, and the community.

In an effort to improve Undip towards a World Class University (WCU), the Directorate of Communication and Alumni Relations of Undip in collaboration with the Undip Rating Office has carried out the “Talkshow Strengthening the Undip Alumni Network 2020”. This activity aims to: increase friendship between Diponegoro University and alumni, discuss strategic issues for strengthening Undip alumni networks, mapping the challenges of Undip Alumni in the Industrial Era 5.0 and alumni contributions to Undip development, increasing the role of alumni in Undip branding, optimizing databases alumni, including for the QS Employer Reputation.

The talkshow activities to strengthen the network of Undip Alumni in 2020 have been carried out in series, namely from Series 1 to Series 7. Series 1 starts from August 15, 2020, to Series 7 on November 10, 2020. In Series 1 to Series 6, Undip alumni who live in the country, namely in the following areas: DKI Jakarta-West Java-Banten, Central Java-DIY-East Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi-Bali-NTB-NTT, Papua-Maluku. 7th series of the Talkshow is aimed primarily at Undip alumni who are abroad. In the implementation of this Talkshow, Undip collaborated with IKA Undip.

The speakers at the Series 1 to Series 7 Talkshow included Plt. Undip Vice Rector III — Dwi Cahyo Utomo, S.E., M.A., Ph.D. Akt, Head of Undip Rating Office — Prof. Dr. Denny Nugroho Sugianto, ST., M.Si and the alumni including Deputy Chairperson of the Undip Alumni Family Association (IKA) — Drs. H. Akhmad Muqowam, German Ambassador — Dr. Arif Havas Oegroseno, SH., M.H, Ambassador of Malaysia — Drs. Hermono, M.A; Rector of Tanjung Pura University — Prof. Dr. H. Garuda Wiko, S.H., M.Si, FCBArb; Cenderawasih University Chancellor — Dr. Ir. Apolo Safanpo, ST., M.T; and Director General of Taxes of the Ministry of Finance — Suryo Utomo, SE., Ak., MBT.

In his speech, the Undip Rector, Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, SH., M.Hum. said that in the era of the Independent Campus, students are required to improve their skills, and for those alumni who have the potential and ability can play a role in improving student skills through an internship program at alumni companies/institutions.

In an effort to increase the alumni network, Diponegoro University has developed a device, namely Single Sign-On (SSO), where this system allows alumni to connect to the Undip website and access available facilities and connect with alumni. SSO will continue to be developed to meet the needs of increasing the alumni network, as conveyed by a resource person, Plt. WR III Undip Dwi Cahyo Utomo, S.E., M.A., Ph.D. Akt.

In addition to the SSO system that already exists at Undip, in order to increase the alumni network, a special platform is needed for alumni managed by the alma mater, this was conveyed by the resource persons, namely Dr. Arif Havas Oegroseno, SH., M.H, and Drs. Hermono, M.A.

The Deputy Chairman, representing Undip Alumni Family Association (IKA), Drs. H. Akhmad Muqowam welcomed and strongly supported the 7 Series Talkshow and hoped that at the end of the activity a recommendation could be produced for Undip and IKA Undip for ideal and practical steps that would be carried out in the future to strengthen alumni networks.

At the implementation of the event, alumni both at home and abroad were very enthusiastic about participating in the talk show and they contributed a lot by sharing experiences, providing creative ideas and valuable input to strengthening the Undip alumni network including increasing the alumni database, mapping the potential of alumni in each region and increasing the synergy between alumni and alumni with the alma mater in order to follow up the real collaboration between alumni and Undip.

With the implementation of the 7 Talkshow series, it is hoped that in the future there will be a closer synergy between alumni and alumni with the alma mater and the realization of a concrete step as a manifestation of close collaboration between alumni and the alma mater of our beloved Diponegoro University.
