The First UNDIP Information System Doctoral Study Program in Indonesia

The Doctoral Study Program of Information System (DSI) which was established at Diponegoro University is the only one and first conducted in Indonesia. Even though it is not the first Program Study that deals in Undip Postgraduate School, DSI Program started to accept students in the 2020/2021 Academic Year, and is highly interesting for many people.

The Head of the DSI Program, Prof. Dr. Suryono SSi Msi, stated that the DSI Program of UNDIP has started its academic activity for the first students batch which entered the Study Program on the odd semester in 2021. They’re also planning on accepting more students in the even semester of the 2020/2021 Academic Year.

‘In the odd semester, we accepted 25 students. “Meanwhile, for the even semester, we will accept 15 more students because this year the number of admissions is limited to 40 students. In detail, 25 students are for the odd semester batches and 15 students are in even semesters,” stated Prof. Dr. Suryono SSi MSi on Thursday, December 3, 2020.

According to him, the interest in entering the Undip DSI Study Program is quite high for a doctorate or undergraduate level. “When it was just opened, there were at least 47 prospective students who wanted to join. But we can only accept 25 people,” he said.

Currently, when the odd semester admission has not opened yet, many have asked and wanted to join. Dozens of people intensely asked about the procedures, requirements, and other matters related to the Undip DSI program, while the seats available were only for 15 students. Those who are said to be interested are not including those who ask institutionally such as those from the Belitung Polytechnic who ask for study information and want an official meeting with the manager to explore institutional cooperation.

Based on the existing academic calendar, the opening of PDSI Undip registration for Even Semester 2020/2021 will start on December 7, 2020. While the entrance exam will be held on January 17, 2021, with the material for the entrance test includes academic potential test (TPA), English, interviews, and presentation of the dissertation plan. The election results will be announced on January 20, 2021, and those who are declared accepted must immediately attend lectures as of February 1, 2021.

Furthermore, Suryono revealed that most of those who took the DSI Program were teaching staff, namely the lecturers. “Of the 25 students in the Odd Semester, 24 of them are lecturers. Most of them are computer lecturers. There is only one student, who is not a lecturer and is not bound by a particular institution,” he said.

Asked about the large number of students accepted, according to him, it was because the available facilities and infrastructure made it possible. The high interest is also a consideration for them. Suryono said that all to participate in the information systems doctoral program we have to leave the country, but now it can be done in Indonesia. Undip is the pioneer.

Two paths can be chosen to become a doctor in information systems at Undip. The first is a course which must be started by following 10 credits of courses. After that, proceed with research and publish his research in international journals.

For the second track, namely research, at the beginning of the lecture students immediately undergo a research proposal exam. In this pathway, there is research proposal guidance followed by a research proposal exam. New research is carried out after the research proposal has passed. The target of research publications for students is three scientific publications in international journals.
